Today, Oct. 18, is the deadline to register to vote in New Jersey in advance of the Nov. 8 general election. Here's what you need to do today to be able to vote:

- Check whether you are already registered at the New Jersey Department of State's website.

- If you need to register, fill out the form for your county and bring or mail it to the county commissioner of registration or superintendent of elections for your county. Today, those offices will be open in the evening to allow people to register.

- The deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot is Nov. 1.

- More information is on the state Division of Elections website.
