North Jersey Doctor Saves Boy from Drowning in Wildwood Crest Pool

A North Jersey doctor is being called a hero for rescuing a 3-year-old boy who was found face down in a Wildwood Crest condo swimming pool.

Wildwood Crest Police say Dr. Jonathan O'Brien was swimming at the Stockton Beach House and noticed the the Gloucester County boy, pulled him out of the pool and began performing CPR. By the time Wildwood Crest police arrived the child had been revived and he was taken to Cape Regional Medical Center, police said.

"Without the quick thinking of Mr. O'Brien, this incident could have been much worse," police Sgt. Ed Gorski told the Press of Atlantic City. "His actions are a direct reason why the little boy is alive and expected to make a full recovery.

O'Brien is part of the New Jersey Preinatal Associates and a specialist in maternal-fetal medicine.His office manager, Laura Zammit, told New Jersey 101.5 not surprised that the father of two young children "was looking out for other children."

She described O'Brien as "shy" and "humble," noting that his staff wasn't aware of what happened until reporters started calling.

The boy, who has not been identified by police, was taken Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware where he is expected to make a full recovery.
