When President Barack Obama addresses the graduates during Sunday's commencement at Rutgers he will also be among those being presented with degrees.

In addition to serving as the keynote speaker for the graduation, Obama will also be receiving an honorary law degree from the university.

The Rutgers Board of Governors voted Monday to approve the award of an honorary doctor of laws degree for Obama. It will be presented to him during the May 15 commencement at High Point Solutions Stadium in Piscataway. According to the university, more than 12,000 graduates are scheduled to receive their academic degrees.

The ceremony will mark the university's 250th anniversary. Rutgers granted its very first degree in 1774 and since then, more than 550,000 students have received academic degrees from the university.

“We are delighted that President Obama has chosen to address Rutgers graduates at this year’s historic commencement and we are pleased to present him with this honorary degree,” Rutgers University President Robert Barchi said in a statement.

In the past, Obama has been awarded honorary degrees from a number of schools including Notre Dame and Howard University.
