One man was shot in the parking lot of Cumberland Mall in Vineland Monday, apparently as a result of a drug deal gone wrong.

Police in Vineland say they were called to the parking lot near Boscov's Department Store for the report of a shooting victim.

Police say they identified the victim as a 29-year-old white male, from Vineland.

This subject made statements that he had arrived at the mall with the intent to purchase narcotics from an unidentified subject. According to the victim, the unknown accused attempted to rob him as he sat in the passenger’s side of the accused’s vehicle. During this transaction the accused subject stole cash from the victim and shot him one time in the leg. The victim was able to exit the vehicle and call police. The victim was later transported to the hospital where he was treated for his injury.

Police stress that this was not a random incident. An investigation is continuing.
