One More 80-Degree Day for New Jersey

Wednesday will be another potential record-breaker, with widespread high temperatures in the 80s, as rain and a big cooldown loom on the horizon.

Here are your weather headlines for Wednesday, October 19, 2016...

Record-Breaking Warmth

On Tuesday, we smashed Newark's record high temperature by 5 degrees, topping out at 85 degrees. It's the 67th time the thermometer has hit 85 at Newark in October on-record - not all that unique, but still impressive.

Meanwhile, Trenton hit 83 degrees on Tuesday, breaking the 108 year-old record of 82.

Wednesday will be another very warm day, with morning temperatures in the 60s and afternoon temperatures in the lower to mid 80s. Daily temperatures records (82 in Newark, 83 in Trenton, and only 80 in Atlantic City) will be in jeopardy once again.

We'll enjoy mostly sunny skies across most of the state Wednesday. Occasional cloud banks may downgrade that to "partly sunny" at times.

Clouds, Showers, 70s

You had to know this beautiful, summerlike weather would not last forever. Skies will become mostly cloudy on Thursday, with an on-shore breeze increasing too. Temperatures will get knocked back for Thursday, ranging from the upper 60s in North Jersey to the lower 70s in Central Jersey to the mid 70s in South Jersey.

Thursday will also bring a persistent threat of scattered showers. Nothing heavy and not a washout - it just like a characteristically dreary and damp day.

Temperatures will be similar on Friday, with more clouds and a brisk wind off the ocean. One more round of showers (and maybe a thunderstorm) late Friday into early Saturday will precede a fierce cold front. That front will change our weather dramatically for the upcoming weekend...

Sun, Wind, 60s

Saturday may be a bit of a shock - 80s will be a thing of the past, as highs decline to the 50s and 60s. That means within just three days, we'll go from 15 degrees above normal to almost 10 below normal. I guess it all averages out in the end.

Saturday's highs are expected to reach just 55 to 61, despite mostly sunny skies. The cool temperatures doesn't even tell the whole story, as a gusty wind will carry that cooler air into New Jersey. Gusts to 30 or 40 mph are not out of the question. It'll be blustery, for sure.

Temperatures on Sunday will creep up a few degrees, into the lower 60s. The wind will continue to blow, the air will be very dry, and skies will stay sunny.
