Hamilton Township Police are investigating a serious accident this morning that injured a person who was standing on Route 40.

The accident happened just before 9:00 this morning. 39-year-old Iyana Davis of Mays Landing was on the shoulder of Route 40 at approximately milepost 44.5 waiting to cross the road when she was struck by a westbound vehicle. A vehicle, driven by 70-year-old Caesar Niglio, Jr., of Northfield left the roadway and struck Davis, who was thrown about 25 feet.

Niglio stated that he left the roadway when he swerved to avoid a truck that had stopped suddenly in front of him.  He lost control, struck Davis, then struck a bus shelter.

Davis was treated on the scene by Galloway Rescue Squad and flown by Southstar to AtlantiCare City Division. Niglio was transported to Mainland for evaluation.
