Phillies Shortstop Trea Turner Will Miss Significant Time

The Phillies continue to be a hot team.

With a record of 22-11, the Phillies sit atop the National League East, .5 games ahead of the Atlanta Braves.

Part of that success was due to their star shortstop, Trea Turner.  The Phillies will now have to forge ahead without Turner for a while.

The Phillies announced on Saturday afternoon that Turner was placed on the 10-day injured list.  Turner is expected to miss about six weeks.

Turner was replaced on the roster by infielder Kody Clemens.  Clemens was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.  It will not likely be Clemens at shortstop, who has never played there in his professional career.

The Phillies will likely give Edmundo Sosa the bulk of the time at shortstop while Turner is out.  Sosa replaced Turner during Friday night's action after Turner injured himself.

Another option is second baseman Bryson Stott.   Stott came up as a shortstop but permanently moved to second base to make way for Turner.  The Phillies could then utilize Whit Merrifield at second base.

It's unclear if the Phillies will consider a position change for Stott after he has excelled at second base.
