Stafford police are investigating a crash involving a motor vehicle and a school bus that took place Wednesday afternoon in the township.

According to authorities, Stafford Township Police responded to a motor vehicle collision at 2 p.m. on Route 72 at the intersection of Nautilus Drive. During the course of an investigation, responding officers learned that a 2010 Jeep operated by oseph Schmid, 30 of Manahawkin was traveling west on Route 72. At the same time, a mini-bus operated by Anni McNelly, 75, of West Creek made a left hand turn from the eastbound side of Route 72 to access Nautilus Drive. The bus driver made the turn in front of Schmid's Jeep.

"Schmid attempted to avoid the mini-bus, however contact occurred within the intersection," police said in a press release. "Schmid’s vehicle continued west contacting a third vehicle stopped on Nautilus Drive operated by Margaret Franchi, 43 ,of Whiting who was waiting to access Route 72 west."

There was one teenager and one adult on the school bus, which is owned by Durham School Services, a bus company. Police say no one was injured.

Traffic in the area was backed up for a brief time as authorities investigated the crash and cleared the vehicles from the scene. All three vehicles had to be towed, police said.

Authorities have not yet issued any summonses, but the accident remains under investigation.
