I don't care what a certain 'weather rodent' has to say about the forecast - it's going to start feeling like February across the Garden State.

I've been saying for a while that February will "make or break" this winter season. (That's especially true since seasonal snowfall is hovering just below normal, so far.) If February's weather turns cold and active, this will be remembered as a snowy winter overall. If February is a dud, the winter will be characterized as a failure too.

At the moment? I'm leaning toward a dud, with no major snow storms expected for the next week or two (at least).

A cold front will kick up a west-northwest wind on Thursday, gusting over 20 mph at times. While the day will be a bit blustery, high temperatures will end up just above normal in the lower to mid 40s. We'll see a mix of sun and clouds, and maybe a few snowflakes along the way. (Showers have been pushing eastward across Pennsylvania, but they'll be very light or gone completely by the time they arrive in the Garden State.)

You'll start to notice the newly refreshed early February chill Thursday night, as temperatures dip into the 16 to 24 degree range across New Jersey. Expect mostly clear skies overnight, with fairly light winds and quiet weather.

Friday will be downright cold, as high temperatures struggle to reach even the mid 30s. Even a little bit of a breeze will add that bitter "wind chill" to the forecast. Skies will be partly sunny.

And Saturday gets even colder, with highs only in the lower 30s. At least we'll enjoy abundant sunshine cutting through the cold winter air.

By Sunday, clouds will start to increase again across New Jersey. Temperatures will bounce back to about 40 degrees too. While we had been tracking a significant storm system for Sunday-Monday, our forecast now includes only a shower. If that.

The sun should shine on Monday, before our next bout of messy weather arrives in the Tuesday-Wednesday time frame. Right now, it looks like this system will pass north of New Jersey, opening the door to warmer air. So while Tuesday could start snowy (possibly with a few inches of accumulation in North Jersey), late Tuesday and Wednesday look rainy at this time.
