Frank Theatres Towne Stadium 16 movie theater in Egg Harbor Township has closed its doors.

The Towne 16 Theatre, on the Black Horse Pike, across from the former Shore Mall, closed permanently after Thursday's, Jan 24 movie showings, according to the Press of Atlantic City. The Press says employees of the theater confirmed that the movie theater is going out of business.

The closing follows news last year that owner Frank Theaters filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection over the summer.

Frank Theaters also vacated another of their other local  properties, Tilton 9 Theatres in Northfield in 2018. The Tilton 9 Theater is now being renovated for reopening by the local ownership group that purchased the Ventnor Theater from Bruce Frank in August.

According to its website, Frank Theatres owns and operates 20 theaters and 220 screens in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.

The Press of Atlantic City reports an employee at the Middle Township Frank Theatre said that location was not closing.
