Scammers Claim to Hold Local Families Hostage
New Jersey State Police are warning local residents about a phone scam where residents are told their families are being held hostage.
Police say they're investigating several reports where callers claim they will harm victims' families if money is not wired to the caller.
Reports of such incidents have been made to the State Police stations in Woodbine and Bridgeton, and local police departments in Bridgeton, Millville, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
None of the incidents were substantiated, and investigations are continuing.
Police say that if you receive a similar call, contact your local police immediately, and do not wire any money to the caller.
