Responding to inquiries of patients of Dr. James Kaufmann, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office issues details and instructions for retrieving medical files.

The endocrinologist was arrested in mid-June on a weapons charge. His license to practice in New Jersey is under suspension.

The Egg Harbor Township office closed at 4PM Friday, not to reopen. The Press of Atlantic City reported a line of patients, anxious to obtain their records.

Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner said that most medical files remained in the Ocean Heights Avenue office, but some are in the hands of investigators.

Files determined to have no value as evidence will be returned "as soon as is practicable," according to a statement form Tyner's office. Files to be retained will be copied, and the copies will be available for retrieval. Bring photo identification.

If you have questions about a medical file, or need it returned, call the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office, 609-909-7800.
