To say that Wednesday morning's commute was a difficult one would be an understatement.

Just as many people in South Jersey were getting ready to head out the door to head to work, severe thunderstorms with flooding downpours rumbled across a good portion of our area. Some areas of South Jersey unofficially received over three inches of rain in under two hours, causing widespread street flooding.

Many major highways were severely impacted by quickly rising water, including major intersections like Cologne Avenue and the Black Horse Pike in Mays Landing, and the White Horse Pike at Route 9 in Absecon, as seen in the photo from the Absecon Police Department. -- both of those areas had several cars stranded in window-high flood water.

As of late morning, numerous flood advisories and flood warnings were still posted across the area, except for Cape May County, which missed much of the severe weather this morning.

Remember, never drive through flood waters -- turn around, down drown!
