In addition to deer and all kinds of other wildlife that you might see as you drive on the Atlantic City Expressway, you may notice a larger number of bats soon, too.

The South Jersey Transportation Authority has announced they have erected 20 bat houses at their three maintenance yards and also at two toll plazas on the Atlantic City Expressway.

The bat houses are just one of several environmental causes that the SJTA is involved in. They are also installing just as many bluebird and American kestral boxes, plus five osprey platforms, according to a press release.

Building the boxes is a collaboration between the SJTA and the Gloucester County Institute of Technology. The Authority provided the materials and GCIT carpentry students built the bat houses.
