Authorities say 68-year-old Robert Losasso was arrested Friday on six counts of violating the federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act. He's charged with killing or attempting to kill red-tailed hawks, sharp-shinned hawks, red-shouldered hawks and Cooper's hawks.

His neighbors had seen at least 40 dead or injured birds in the area over the past few years. The neighborhood is along a major migration route, the Atlantic Flyway.

Authorities say a surveillance camera set up nearby showed him pointing his gun out through his rear sliding glass door.

Losasso denied to law enforcement having shot any birds. He is due in federal court in Newark on Friday afternoon.
