Rates will be lowered by 3.2 percent, beginning Oct. 1. The average customer will pay $4.22 a month less.

The Press of Atlantic City reports the decrease is the result of the Conservation Incentive Program which stabilizes rates based on seasonal weather changes. In short, rates are going down because customers used more gas for heat last winter.

South Jersey Gas has about 350,000 customers in Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland counties.
