New Jersey will remain under the influence of this complicated storm system complex on Friday, but big improvements are ahead for the weekend.

Even though the heavy rain and thunderstorms ran a bit behind schedule on Thursday, they certainly made for a loud and wet afternoon. Even though skies cleared quickly Thursday evening and overnight, we still have some unsettled weather in the forecast.

You might catch a peek of sunshine Friday morning, but clouds will fill back in for the rest of the day. One more batch of scattered showers is expected from about Friday late morning through afternoon. Anything that falls from the sky on Friday should remain very light — we're at the very tail end of this storm system, and our atmosphere has dried out quite a bit.

Meanwhile, a brisk northwesterly wind at 15 to 25 mph (gusting to 30 mph) will keep temperatures at bay Friday. High temperatures will be limited to the lower to mid 50s, just below seasonal normals.

If (and it's a big "if") the shower chance extends into Friday evening, as temperatures begin to drop, there could be a few snowflakes flying around North Jersey. No significant impacts are expected, but it's worth a mention.

Skies will clear out again Friday night, allowing temperatures to fall into the mid 30s. That's cold enough for a widespread frost. The coldest spots in North Jersey could experience a light freeze for a few hours Saturday morning.

By the time you wake up Saturday morning, skies will be sunny and our weather improvements will be underway!

We'll hold on to a brisk wind on Saturday, again potentially over 20 mph throughout the day. Temperatures will be seasonable (near-normal), peaking around the upper 50s by Saturday afternoon.

Sunday gets even better, with highs climbing into the upper 60s. It should be a beautiful day.

Both Monday and Tuesday will be partly sunny, breezy, and even warmer. Forecast high temperatures are in the mid to upper 70s. I wouldn't be surprised at all if South Jersey makes a run for 80 degrees early next week.

Our next storm system is currently scheduled for Tuesday night to Wednesday. Light to moderate rain is expected, along with a slight cooldown to the 60s through midweek.

Enjoy the increasingly beautiful weather this weekend! I'll be taking an extra day off on Monday to enjoy the sunshine and warmth, but the MDZ weather blog will return on Tuesday!
