Saturday's cold, damp weather has given way to sunshine and warmer temperatures on Sunday to make for a better day for the holiday weekend.

Winds of 25 knots out of the northwest will die down on Sunday afternoon although a Small Craft Advisory will stay in effect.

The warmer weather looks to be here for most of the week with sunny skies and temperatures in the 70s and 80s. The long range forecast calls for high temperatures of 90 for next weekend.

 

Saturday was more of an indoor day as beaches were deserted and badge-checkers were not even on duty. Lifeguard stands were turned upside down, and only a handful of hardy souls braved the blowing sand that stung the eyes and scoured the skin along Manasquan's paved beach walk, which was just rebuilt a few weeks ago.

Jerry Rau of Chruchville, Pennsylvania found a positive in the day: great fishing. “We all got up early, came down here and we’re having a great time,” Rau told the Star Ledger. “This time of year, the sharks are coming in. The little guys are hatching, and you also have the striper run, which begins in May.

Memorial Day brought snow to northern New Hampshire and Vermont with 1-3 inches falling on Friday night and Saturday  in New Hampshire according to WMUR TV and 7 inches near Stowe, Vermont reports WCVB TV.
