Have you ever heard of scenic byways? Did you know New Jersey has a bunch of them? Take a scenic ride through New Jersey on these roadways.

There are roadways all over the country that are nationally recognized as scenic byways. They are exactly what they sound like.

According to the United States Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration:

All of America's Byways® are "scenic", representing the depth and breadth of scenery in America--natural and man-made panoramas; electrifying neon landscapes; ancient and modern history coming alive; native arts and culture; and scenes of friends, families and strangers sharing their stories.

Doesn't that sound lovely?

New Jersey has 7 total, 2 of which are in South Jersey.

The byway also includes 14 spurs to make sure you see the most scenic views of the ride.

Pine Barrens Byway

A fairly new byway brought on by the Pinelands Commission, was formally approved in 2009. The roadway starts at the Mullica River and ends at the Maurice River.

As someone who loves all things Pine Barrens, this seems like my kind of Sunday drive.

There are 6 loops, 1 spur, and 3 routes that make up this byway.
