Around 11:30 Thursday night, Pleasantville Police responded to Vola Lane after receiving multiple 911 calls. Officers found 19-year-old Mark Smith on the ground bleeding from a head wound. Smith was taken to ARMC-City where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy determined the cause of death to be gunshot wounds to his head and neck.

Following an investigation, 22-year-old Hassan Montague-Reed of Pleasantville has been charged with first degree murder, kidnapping, witness tampering, and other charges.

A man and a woman, 19-year-old Dixon X. Emory and 21-year-old Shaheeday T. Frisby, both of Pleasantville, were charged with kidnapping, witness tampering, and other charges.

According to a press release, the State alleges that, after the killing of Smith, Montague-Reed, Frisby, and Emory forced a person who witnessed the murder into the basement of 223 Abbey Lane, Pleasantville, confining the person for a substantial period of time to induce or otherwise cause the witness to withhold information and evidence from police. The defendants eventually released the kidnapping victim.

Frisby and Emory were arrested without incident this past Saturday night. Montague-Reed remains at-large.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Montague-Reed is urged to quickly contact the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit at (609) 909-7666.
