A freshman at Mainland Regional High School was on life support Sunday, the Press of Atlantic City reported, after a multi-vehicle accident on Route 40 in Hamilton Township.Aisling Cooke, 16, was one of several young people injured in the crash, shortly before 8:45 Saturday morning. She was airlifted from the scene to AtlantiCare Regional Medical center, the Press reported.

According to the paper, school officials are planning a special assembly Tuesday, as well as counseling for students who may required it.

Cooke was one of three girls who were passengers in a car driven by Madelyn Williscroft, 18, of Linwood, police said.

According to the police report, the accident resulted when an eastbound car driven by Nicholas Gareffi of Vineland struck an oncoming truck before careening into Williscroft's car. It said Gareffi was also transported for medical treatment but the driver of the truck was uninjured.
