It was a truly shocking discovery for an Eatontown man driving through Lakewood on Saturday around 6:00 pm who stopped his car as he saw a small child crawling across Joe Parker Road.

Cory Cannon, 43, then got out of his car to tend to the child laying in the roadway outside 201 Joe Parker Road.

He was then approached by a resident who brought the little boy back home to his family.

Cannon called police letting them know about the discovery.

Police say the family was unaware the child had left until the neighbor returned him back home.

Investigators say the infant may have left through a door that was not secured by an older sibling.

Lakewood Police are continuing their investigation into the incident with the assistance of the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency.
