Tone, Tighten and Shape Your Body with Pilates Reformer
When we think of Pilates, we might think of the class that is taught on the mat, but fitness centers across the globe are now offering workouts on a versatile piece of equipment called the Pilates reformer.
Created by founder Joseph Pilates, the reformer is a bed-like frame with flat platform known as a carriages. The carriage is attached by springs and rolls back and forth on wheels within the frame. It also has long straps with handles that are pulled with the arms or legs to move the carriage. The resistance of the springs can be adjusted to provide more or less resistance. Just like mat Pilates, the reformer helps increase overall conditioning, coordination, flexibility, core strength, and balance which can help with daily function. In addition Pilates can help relieve pain associated with many chronic conditions, including back pain and stiffness. The Pilates reformer kicks it up a notch by adding extra resistance, more variety of exercises and a deeper stretch. It is important to get proper instruction with a certified Pilates instructor to learn the many exercises and versatility of this unique piece of equipment and toning, tightening workout.
