An eventual cooldown is imminent for the Garden State, although it comes with some unsettled, wet weather too.

Here are your weather headlines for Wednesday, July 27, 2016...

Wednesday: Breaks of Sun, Some Showers

Tuesday wasn't a terrible weather day in New Jersey. The top temperature in the state was 93 degrees (Jersey City), compared to an oppressive 99 degrees on Monday (Newark). Dew points were ever so slightly lower on Tuesday as well, so the air was a bit less thick and steamy.

Our Wednesday high temperature forecast is very similar to Tuesday - most spots will reach the lower 90s, making it the 7th consecutive day of this heat wave. There will be exceptions, as NW NJ, the Jersey Shore, and areas under the influence of showers in South Jersey may only top out in the 80s.

A storm system south of New Jersey will just barely clip the state on Wednesday, potentially producing isolated showers and sprinkles throughout the day. At the very least, cloud cover will be somewhat more plentiful over the southern half of the Garden State.

Thursday: Grand Finale of the 90s

As our next widespread storm system approaches, clouds will increase on Thursday and we'll eventually see a chance for widely scattered showers by the afternoon or evening hours. Models do not presently show any truly heavy rain or strong thunderstorms on Thursday.

Even so, the impending clouds and rain probably won't prevent high temperatures from climbing to around the 90 degree mark. Although once again, not everyone in New Jersey will experience 90+ Thursday.

Friday: Pretty Wet

With a drought watch issued this week by the NJ Department of Environmental Protection, we could certainly use some healthy rainfall. And, as a slow moving storm system arrives on Friday, we could see a mostly wet day to close out the workweek.

There are still many question marks surrounding the rain and the cooldown it will enact, particularly regarding the timing and intensity of the rain and thunderstorms. For now, I see three potential rounds of wet weather:
1.) Widely scattered showers on Thursday (see above)
2.) Widespread rain and thunderstorms, could be heavy at times from Thursday night through Friday morning
3.) One more round of showers and light thunderstorms Friday evening through early Saturday morning

High temperatures on Friday will limited to the mid 80s, thanks to the rain and clouds.

The Weekend

I'm pleased to pass along that there are no 90s in the forecast for this weekend! But that doesn't mean the weather will be picture-perfect.

Our current forecast keeps the Saturday daytime hours dry, with mostly to partly sunny skies and highs again in the mid 80s. If that comes to fruition, it will be a very nice day.

Sunday looks wetter, as showers and thunderstorms return. Just like Friday, Sunday could turn into a pretty wet day for at least part of New Jersey. And just like Friday, the clouds and rain will limit high temperatures to the 80s.

80s continue for early next week, but models hint at another wave of horrendous heat and humidity building by late next week.
