Two more mosquitoes have tested positive for West Nile Virus in Northfield.

According to a press release from Atlantic County, that brings the total number of positive tests to nine across the county this summer.

The latest samples were collected in Northfield in the 1200 block of Zion Road and the 700 block of Debora Street. Previous positive samples were found in Hammonton, Pleasantville, Linwood, and other areas of Northfield.

State health officials have confirmed three human cases of West Nile Virus this year, but none are in Atlantic County.

Health officials encourage residents to reduce the spread of West Nile Virus by following these tips:

  • Use an insect repellent whenever going outdoors.
  • Rid your property of mosquito breeding grounds by draining standing water, such as in buckets, bird baths, flower pots, and other containers.
  • Clean clogged gutters and also check and repair screen doors.
