NEW JERSEY 101.5

Voter turnout in Tuesday's New Jersey gubernatorial came in under 40 percent, by far the lowest in a governor's election since at least 1920.

Unofficial results from the state Division of Elections show just over 2 million people cast votes out of 5.5 million eligible voters -- or about 37 percent.

The turnout number will rise somewhat as results from a handful of remaining precincts are reported. But it will remain far below the 47 percent mark four years ago that was a previous low.

Gov. Chris Christie received about 60 percent of the votes in this week's election, which came 20 days after a special U.S. Senate election where only about one-fourth of voters participated.
