An organization is collecting them for a very worthy purpose.

Earth's next total solar eclipse will occur on July 2, 2019, visible across Argentina, Chile, and the southern Pacific Ocean.

A group called Astronomers Without Borders is collecting your lightly used 2017 solar eclipse glasses to distribute to schools and community groups in the 2019 totality zone.

That's pretty cool — and a super easy way to spread the joy of science to the southern hemisphere. If you're not planning to save your eclipse glasses as a memento or for our next solar eclipse in 2024, please consider donating them!

(Because let's face it, no matter what you paid for them, the resale value of your eclipse glasses is now pretty much zero...)

They haven't announced exact plans or instructions yet, but you can visit their web site, like them on Facebook, or follow them on Twitter for more info.
