A substitute charter high school van driver caught on video speeding at 80 mph on the Garden State Parkway while she snapped pictures has been fired.

Jude Clough told the Asbury Park Press that her daughter Ashley,16, a student at the Academy Charter High School of Lake Como texted her from the backseat concerned about her safety as the driver took pictures of a stuffed animal and looked down at her phone.

"I feel like I'm going to get into an accident," Ashley texting to her mother. "She was driving 80 miles per hour and slamming on the brakes."

Ashley also quietly took video showing the speedometer reaching 80 as the driver and a front-seat passenger chatted and took pictures.

School Diretcor Mary McKinley told the Press that the driver, who works for D A G Transport LLC of Lakewood, was fired after the school was made aware of the incident.

"In reviewing the evidence provided to us by the student, we were appalled by the recklessness exhibited by the driver," McKinley wrote in an email to the Press. "The safety of our students is our primary concern." McKinley would not identify the driver to the Press.

A check of the state School Bus Report Card website shows of 22 vehicles inspected, 25 percent of their fleet failed their inspections.

Calls to McKinley and D A G seeking additional comment have not yet been returned.
