Despite a reinforcing shot of cold air today, temperatures will slowly warm through the rest of the workweek.

Even with the wintry mix and rain yesterday, high temperatures at both Newark and Atlantic City reached 40 degrees. We are cooler today, with temperatures holding in the lower 30s through Noon, and then falling into the 20s this afternoon. Add a brisk northerly wind at 10 to 20 miles per hour, and it will certainly feel chilly all day.

I added a chance for showers to the forecast for tomorrow, but it’s really a coin flip as to whether or not it will happen. The 00Z NAM forecast model has a brief period of solid precipitation (probably mostly snow) over South Jersey and the Jersey Shore tomorrow. The 00Z GFS keeps the precipitation out to sea. So again, I’ll put the “chance" in the forecast, but I’m not holding my breathe that it will verify.

The rest of the week will feature a slow warming trend. Mid 30s on Thursday... about 40 degrees on Friday... lower 40s on Saturday... and pushing 50 degrees (or warmer) by Sunday! Because our atmosphere is so dry, I don’t expect any significant precipitation this week... although it seems this time of year there’s always that slightly possibility of a snow shower in the daily forecast.
