The 15-foot-pilot whale was discovered on Sunday morning dead on the beach at Syracuse Street and the beach according to WPVI TV.

Center Director Bob Schoelkopf told the Press of Atlantic City that the whale, weighing close to a ton, was emaciated. He said a necropsy will be performed to determine what killed the whale.

Schoelkopf said the stranding center also collected a dead 80-pound loggerhead sea turtle on Sunday, after it washed up in Stone Harbor. He said the turtle appeared to have died after being hit by a boat.

The Associated Press contributed to this story.
