What Do Your Odds of Winning Powerball Actually Look Like?
Thanks to Powerball-mania, most of us know the odds of winning $1.5 billion tonight are 1 in about 292 million. But what does that actually look like?
The Wall Street Journal built a web page that visually shows your odds of winning (or losing) tonight. The page starts with some easy to comprehend stats: a 1-in-2 chance of winning a coin toss, a 1-in-10 chance of being born left-handed, and more. But to visualize exactly how tiny the 1-in-292,000,000 chance of winning Powerball is, they show 292,201,337 dots -- and the last dot is your one chance at becoming a billionaire tonight. I hit print preview on my browser and it would be over 7,100 pages of dots!
