It's getting to the point that many of us just refuse to answer our phone anymore because of telemarketers and scammers.

Now, another scam has been revealed by the Atlantic County Sheriff's Department.

According to Sheriff Eric Scheffler, the latest scam involves someone using the Sheriff Department's own phone number and people posing as employees of the department.

According to Sheffler,

The scammers are using false Caller ID information, known as spoofing, purporting to be the main phone number of the Sheriff’s Office (609-909-7200). The imposters are telling residents that they have a financial matter with the court and owe money. There Sheriff’s Office does not contact residents by phone if they have a legal matter with the Superior Court. If you were truly involved in a court matter, you would be contacted by US Mail or visited by a uniformed Sheriff’s Officer.
