Philadelphia and Atlantic City, New Jersey Developer Bart Blatstein has written an appeal to Governor Phil Murphy, Lieutenant Governor Sheila Oliver, Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small, with a copy of the letter sent to all Atlantic City Council Members.

We have the letter and it’s included in it’s entirety below.

Yesterday, Blatstein called for a fair selection process for choosing the Atlantic City Bader Field developer. Blatstein asked that it be competitive and transparent. At the same time, he expressed confidence in all levels of state, county and local governments.

Following Blatstein’s press conference event at the Showboat, Atlantic City (yesterday), Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small made the following public comment to The Press of Atlantic City:

"I'm a huge supporter of Bart Blatstein. I'm just excited Bart and others have their eye on Atlantic City. I let him know an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) between the city and the other project is imminent,” said Small.

You can understand that this did not inspire confidence within Blatstein.

Blatstein ends his letter with the following call to action:

We look forward to a strong, vigorous, and competitive public process and strongly urge your Administrations to formally begin it. There are several competent agencies such as CRDA, NJ EDA, SJTA and others that have the experience to conduct such a process; a process to include important and meaningful input from local, regional and state stakeholders. This asset, sitting virtually unused for years, must not be wasted. We leave it to your good judgment to determine the best course of action that provides transparency and competition. Let's get started!

Here is the actual letter that Blatstein has sent to Murphy, Oliver and the local Atlantic City elected officials.

Although Small has stated that an MOU will be imminently announced … no state of New Jersey official has made a similar statement.

The state of New Jersey has extended its takeover of Atlantic City during Small’s time as Mayor. Only the state can make this decision. Small can certainly offer his input, however, he has no authority whatsoever and is not a decision maker of this major decision.

Bader Field represents 140 acres and it’s the last large waterfront piece of property available to develop in Atlantic City. It’s significance cannot be overstated.
