One of the two sisters missing after an awful fire cut through the 300 block of S. 4th Street in Millville has been found dead. Her sister is still unaccounted for as authorities continue to comb through the rubble left after a gas line rupture.

6ABC is reporting that a family member said the children are his nieces, ages 9 and 13. It wasn't immediately known which child was found.

23 people have been displaced in the fire that destroyed six homes in four buildings on the block.

The fire broke out at about 11 pm Wednesday and burned two duplexes down to the foundation and badly damaged two single-family homes.

A ruptured gas line fed the fire for several hours, making it more intense, allowing the flames to jump from house to house.

"Until the South Jersey gas arrived and was able to turn the gas off to all the houses, we did have a gas-fed fire that made it a little bit more difficult," Chief John Wettstein, with the Millville Fire Department, told 6ABC.

Fire Hydrant on the Block Did Not Work

Firefighters were hampered by a non-functioning fire hydrant on the block. One firefighter said they had to run 800 feet of hose -- more than 2.5 football fields -- to another hydrant to fight the fire.

There is no word yet on the cause of this fire, though officials said there are no signs yet that it's suspicious.

An adult was injured in the fire and is expected to be okay. That person is described as a family member of the children.

The Red Cross is assisting those displaced.
