Crews Battle 100-Acre Wildfire in Cumberland County

South Jersey fire crews spent a long night Thursday fighting a fire, named the "Halloween Wildfire", in Downe Township, Cumberland County.

The fire had burned about 100 acres and was 0% contained as of 9 pm Thursday, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service.

People in Millville and Vineland reported smokey conditions early Friday.

Cumberland County Wildfire Closes a Road

No structures are threatened and nobody has been evacuated, however, Railroad Avenue is closed between Dividing Creek Road and Ackley Road, according to the NJFFS.

Thursday night, crews were using backfire,  bulldozers, and ground crews to contain the wildfire.

Downe Township is about is about 15 miles northeast of Bridgeton.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The next update on the blaze from the NJ Forest Fire is expected at 10:30 am Friday.

The wildfire happened as South Jersey was under a severe drought.

NJFFS crews were continuing to battle a separate wildfire in Evesham Township. The wildfire was 90% contained as of Thursday morning.
