Historic Dennisville X-Mas House Tour Returns After 6 Years
One of South Jersey's most enjoyable Christmas traditions is returning after a 6-year hiatus. The Historic Dennisville Christmas House Tour is back on Saturday, Dec 21st from 3 to 7 pm.
Dennisville House Tour Returns
The 32nd annual Historic Dennisville Christmas House Tour hasn't been annual for a while.
Between COVID-19 and construction interruptions on Petersburg Road in Dennisville, the tour was only conducted virtually over the last several years.
“This is something we absolutely love sharing with the community,” Joan Berkey, an architectural historian and the new chair of the House Tour Committee told Seven Mile Times.
“It’s wonderful to bring this back. We conducted the tour virtually during COVID and with the road construction, but it’s not the same thing.
What's Part of This Year's Tour?
The Christmas House Tour will include 9 historic houses and buildings, including two churches and a school, which will be decorated and open to the public.
They include an early 1900s log house with many original details, and antique furnishings, several village houses built in the mid-1800s, two churches from the 1870s, and more.
This year's featured property is “Walden Puddle,” an early-1900s log house north of Dennisville being included in the tour for the first time.
Joan Berkley says this house is a must-see.
“This is very rare, an early-1900s log house in Cape May County. There are so many things about the house that are awesome.
You have the original stone fireplace, original light fixtures and floors. One of the children’s bedrooms have two original small bunk beds. There are original beds made of logs."
Middle Township Students Will Act As Greeters
According to the Historic House Tour Committee, students from Middle Township will greet guests and offer suggestions for using your time wisely to see everything the tour has to offer.
The 3 pm start will give you about 90 minutes to do the bulk of your touring during daylight. The tour includes free cookies and hot beverages.
Tickets are $15 if purchased online and $20 the day of the tour.
