Windjammer in Somers Point Abruptly Closes After Years as Local Favorite
A Somers Point staple has abruptly closed its doors.
The Windjammer Café Bar & Grill, which opened on October 11, 2011, at 18 MacArthur Blvd in Somers Point, has served its last meal.
Windjammer Closes Without Notice
Multiple people posted on social media that the restaurant was closing Sunday night and that the waitstaff was also just advised that they would be closing.

Rumors About What Comes Next
Many people have posted or speculated that the business was sold and will become a sports bar, possibly a Pour House or P.J. Whelihan’s, but that is not confirmed at this time.
P.J.'s has 25 locations throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania and is known for its buffalo wings, burgers, and salads
The Pour House, which is a smaller concept than P.J.'s, has three other PA locations and is known more for its craft beer offerings.
Community Reaction and Memories
Windjammer opened in the location that was formerly home to a T.G.I. Friday’s, and has been a locals' favorite, with many people posting how sad they were to hear the news.
"I loved their breakfast," said Debbie on Facebook.
"Today is the Windjammer in Somers point last day of being open. I had to get one last crab bisque before they closed," said James.
Joyce added: "Their crab bisque was my favorite, too!"
Others expressed how much they liked it and how sad they were to hear the news.
The Reality of Running a Local Business
Owning a business these days is tough, and it's not getting any easier. Rising costs, higher customer demand, and a lack of workforce have forced many local businesses to shutter.
I keep reading people complaining about the possibility of a new sports bar coming to Windjammer's location.
You don't like it, open your own spot.
Two weeks ago, I wrote about a new brewery coming to Bay Avenue, and the comments of "another bar" drove me nuts. The person spending their money has every right to open whatever business they want. They've likely done the research to see what works and what doesn't.

You, as a consumer, have the option to patronize the business or not, but why question anyone who wants to try and offer something regardless of how many options there are?
I wish well to anyone attempting to open a business in this area, and I will always give a new business a shot.
Somers Point has plenty of options, but as one business closes its doors, let's see what comes next.
