Man Charged in Connection to March Crash that Injured a Hamilton Township Cop
A Mays Landing man has been charged in connection to a crash that happened earlier this year that seriously injured a Hamilton Township Police Officer.
On the night of March 2nd, a Hamilton Township police officer was blocking traffic on the Black Horse Pike at Route 50 due to wires down on the roadway. A car being driven by 22-year-old Isaiah Rasul Muhammad Smith of Mays Landing crashed into the officer's vehicle.
The officer sustained serious injuries; Smith was uninjured and arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. He was also issued summons for careless driving, reckless driving, driving while intoxicated, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, operating a vehicle without a seatbelt, failure to yield to an officer’s direction, and failure to move over.
On Wednesday, Smith was charged with Assault by Auto and Possession of Marijuana as a result of the crash investigation. The charges were placed on a summons and Smith was transported back to the Atlantic County Justice Facility where he is lodged on unrelated charges.
