The smoke from a boat fire in Wildwood Saturday morning could be seen for miles on a clear sunny day.

The City of Wildwood Fire Department says they were called out to Otten’s Harbor at about 10:30AM for a fire. The 40-foot pleasure boat was docked in the 200 block of Dock Street.

As crews arrived, firefighters were advised of a burn victim who was taken inside a nearby business. "Wildwood Crest EMS, along with AtlantiCare Paramedics, treated and transported the victim to the Cape May County Armory in Cape May Court House where the patient was transferred to a Medevac helicopter and airlifted to Jefferson University Hospital Burn Center in Philadelphia where the patient is listed in serious condition at this time." That person has not been identified.

Fire crews from several nearby departments - and fire boats from North Wildwood and Stone Harbor helped fight the fire. Things got tricking when the boat broke free of the dock and started floating away. "Due to the strong winds at the time of the incident, the vessel eventually ended up at the east end of Otten’s Harbor adjacent to Park Blvd. As the boat drifted in the harbor, there was minor damage to two other docked vessels."

The fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes. There was one minor injury to a firefighter.

The cause of the blaze is being investigated.

Stacker used data from the 2020 County Health Rankings to rank every state's average life expectancy from lowest to highest. The 2020 County Health Rankings values were calculated using mortality counts from the 2016-2018 National Center for Health Statistics. The U.S. Census 2019 American Community Survey and America's Health Rankings Senior Report 2019 data were also used to provide demographics on the senior population of each state and the state's rank on senior health care, respectively.
