Senator Bill Gormley, His Second Chapter Has Been Established

In his first celebrated Chapter, it appeared that former New Jersey State Senator Bill Gormley had done it all, following nearly 30 years in the New Jersey Legislature.

Gormley wielded the gavel as the powerful Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Gormley delivered the massive funding for the Atlantic City and Wildwood Convention Centers. He also delivered a mega remodel of historic Boardwalk Hall.

He was a Trenton potentate. A legislative legend. He approved scores of state judges. He fiercely protected Atlantic City from unwanted encroachment for decades.

No one since the late, great Senator Frank S. “Hap” Farley could compare to Gormley’s actual and perceived level of power.

Remember, if people think you have power. Then, you have power. Gormley had it for real. And, people believed that he had even more than he actually had.

I am in the process of making the case that Gormley’s current Second Chapter is just as influential and powerful as his first.

Since his career in the legislature ended, Gormley quietly and effectively has assisted local schools, Stockton University and countless other not-for-profits in material ways.

Gormley (and, his family) have not only been giving their money. Gormley has been giving his time, expertise and counsel to many organizations.

Only last month did Gormley allow any publicity about him to be made. For these many years of what I’m calling his “Second Chapter,” everything that Gormley has done, came with it, the strict conditions that his role remain anonymous.

During his years of anonymous, good work, he’s donated substantial dollars to worthy causes.

Gormley has funded music programs, along with other school, public and private charitable endeavors, many of which wouldn’t have been able to happen without his support and guidance.

A few weeks ago, we shared the news of The Gormley and Levine Families involvement with the STEAM program, working in concert with The Atlantic County Institute of Technology and Atlantic City Boy’s and Girl’s Club and ultimately this will take on national significance.

This project will result in the next generation being equipped with incredibly advantageous skills, in order to compete in a most competitive and evolving work force.

I can also report today that The Gormley and Levine families have stepped up, yet again and have contributed $ 10,000 to help the Jewish Family Services of Atlantic and Cape May Counties to feed needy families.

During their last community service and involvement, The Gormley and Levine families also brought their children and grandchildren to help contribute and serve the public.

This effort is helping to feed 30 families per-week. JSF has been experiencing a 79 percent increase in need during the Coronavirus pandemic.

The JSF pantry had been feeding 200 per-month. They’re now feeding 225 people per-week.

The need is profound.
