One of the biggest events of the Wildwoods' shoulder season, the New Jersey State Fireman's Convention, has been canceled for 2020.

The annual convention, which was scheduled to take place September 18-20, was canceled during a Zoom meeting held by the executive committee of the state Fireman's Association held Saturday, May 30.

Firemen’s Weekend, including the convention, parade and other events, is a huge off-season moneymaker for Wildwood, its businesses and restaurants.

A statement on the NJSFA’s official website reads:

“The Executive Committee held a special meeting today, 5/30 and voted 21-0 to cancel the 2020 Convention and incorporate the necessary voting at “walk through” county caucuses.”

No reason was given for the convention being canceled so far in advance.

Next year’s convention weekend is planned for September 17-19, 2021.
