State legislators have endorsed a number of bills that attempt to make New Jersey more welcoming for veterans and military spouses, including expanded tax credits for companies that employ them.
Assemblywoman Verlina Reynolds Jackson, D-Mercer, said police could respond to calls for help or even do a walk-through, just not be sitting inside polling locations the whole day.
“This bill implicates some First Amendment speech protections, and I’m concerned about violations of the First Amendment around this bill,” said Assemblyman Chris DePhillips, R-Bergen.
Democratic lawmakers vote to codify in law Gov. Phil Murphy's 2020 election rules, which are being challenged in court by President Donald Trump's campaign.
The bill also states that "a general philosophical or moral objection to the vaccination shall not be sufficient for an exemption on religious grounds."
The changes to how New Jersey conducts the election announced Friday might not be the end of them, depending on what happens with a half-dozen bills making their way through legislative committees.
