The NJ MVC said the new appointments have been planned as part of an initiative to expand REAL ID availability using existing facilities and mobile units.
The test has now moved entirely online and will be administered at high schools and driving schools around the state. It will also still be offered at some MVC offices by appointment only.
Nearly daily since Christmas, the MVC has been posting locations closed specifically because of employees testing positive for COVID-19 or staffing shortages.
A fight that went on for years becomes a reality on Saturday when the MVC begins scheduling driver permit appointments and get non-driver ID cards regardless of immigration status.
In addition to "M" and "F," people will be able to choose "X," which the Motor Vehicle Commission said can be used by those who either identify as gender binary or who prefer not to specify a gender.
