Toms River Man to Spend Three Years in Prison for Fatal Crash

A Toms River man has plead guilty to knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death and causing death by driving without a license after hitting a pedestrian in a crosswalk on March 2.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone announced the guilty plea by Paddy Flynn on Tuesday for hitting 51-year-old Michael Bergamasco of Whippany who later succumbed to his injuries.

Under a plea agreement reached with Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Keith Abrams, Flynn will be sentenced to a prison term of three years in prison.

Flynn was arrested and charged as a result of an investigation by Sergeant Robert Belluscio of the Metuchen Police Department and Detective Jonathan Berman of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Investigators said that around 9:00 am on March 2 Flynn was driving a white Ford F 250 pickup truck and struck the utility worker in the crosswalk at the intersection of Middlesex Avenue and Grove Avenue.

Flynn then fled the scene.

The victim was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and later died from the injuries he sustained in the crash.

Flynn is scheduled to be sentenced in New Brunswick Superior Court by Superior Court Judge Joseph A. Paone on September 8 , 2020
