Atlantic City, New Jersey Memorializes Those Fisherman Lost At Sea

Today, Friday, August 18, 2023 is a very important day that is literally 24 years in the making.

Tonight at 5:15 p.m., there will be a Memorial Mass at  Our Lady Star of The Sea Church at 2651 Atlantic Avenue, in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

The purpose is to memorialize both commercial and residential fisherman who suffered loss of life at sea.

Immediately thereafter, (6:15 p.m.) there will be a sunset memorial service and the dedication of a new (second) monument that between the two, currently displays the 30 names of those commercial and recreational fisherman who have been lost at sea.

The two monuments memorialize those who have been lost at sea since 1932 to the present.

The second monument was required, because they have literally run out of room on the first monument to properly honor those who have forfeited their lives.

The “Lost At Sea Memorial Monument” ceremony will take place at Historic Gardner’s Basin, located at 800 North New Hampshire Avenue in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

We learned during our live on-air interview this morning with Tom Foley that Hackney Concrete, Peterson Memorial and the New Jersey Casino Reinvestment Development Authority have been so instrumental in making this happen.

Foley also mentioned how this all began 24 years ago, when local tournament fisherman Ed “Hacksaw” Peterson, Jeff Giannini and Steve Hayes never returned home from the tournament.

Foley also mentioned how former United States president, Donald Trump paid for the fuel that allowed for an extensive search to be conducted in order to try to locate and rescue Peterson, Giannini and Hayes.
