Convicted Middlesex County, NJ, man charged with possession of child porn
A man from Middlesex County, who has already been convicted of a similar crime, has been charged with possessing images of child sexual abuse.
Andrew Chu of Edison, NJ, Arrested
33-year-old Andrew Chu of Edison is facing one count of possession of child pornography.
Chu made his initial appearance Friday in Newark federal court and was ordered detained.
Federal authorities say from May through November of last year, "Chu used his computer to view approximately 100 images of child sexual abuse, including depictions involving pre-pubescent children."
Previously Convicted
In a prior federal prosecution in New Jersey in 2021, Chu was convicted of possession of child pornography.
For a repeat offender, the charge Chu is facing could send him to prison for ten to 20 years with a $250,000 fine.
U.S. Attorney Philip Sellinger credited special agents of Homeland Security Investigations-Newark with the investigation leading to the charge.
The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ariel Douek of the General Crimes Unit in Newark.
The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
