Former Clayton Mayor Found Dead on Strathmere Beach

New Jersey State Police have identified the body that washed up on a Strathmere beach as that of former Clayton mayor Jeff Radio.

Radio's body was first discovered by a television station helicopter on Tuesday and was taken by the medical examiner for identification and autopsy, according to State Police, who said a cause of death has yet to be determined.

His wife, Nancy Althoff, confirmed his death in a message on Radio's Facebook page.

"I don't have all the answers as to what happened yet as it is an ongoing investigation," she wrote. "I know that everyone who knew loved him and will miss him. My life will never be the same. I need strength from everyone to help me go on. He was my soul mate."

Many accolades were also posted on Radio's Facebook page as well.

"R.I.P. Jeff Radio. You were a great man who cared for Clayton. Condolences to your family," wrote Dave Kling. Mary Ann Moebius wrote that Radio was "the kindest and most gentle soul I have ever known. He lived for his wife and family" and called him a "one of a kind."

"I'm in shock," current Clayton mayor Tom Bianco told the Courier-Post. Bianco described Radio as a "passionate" champion for the Gloucester County community. According to the newspaper, Radio served as mayor from 2009-2012.

Radio's Facebook profile said he was a vice president at Sun National Bank in Maple Shade.
