Have you seen him? Suspect escapes NJ State Police vehicle enroute to jail

State Police are looking for a man who escaped from the back of a police vehicle in South Jersey early Sunday.

Daniel Newman 22, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, was being taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility in Hamilton Township, from the Golden Nugget casino in Atlantic City, when he got out of the car while wearing handcuffs and ran into the woods, according to police. Newman had originally been arrested on theft related charges.

Newman is described at standing 5'8 and weighing 160 pounds with brown eyes and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a dark blue jacket, gray hooded sweatshirt and gray Nike sneakers.

The jail is surrounded by the Atlantic County Institute of Technology and the criminal court. There are homes not far from the jail, however, about a mile away along with thick woods to the south.

State Police asked anyone with information on Newman's whereabouts to call 911.
