A pedestrian was struck and killed early Saturday morning in Monmouth County.

The accident happened around 1:30 at the intersection Route 36 and Atlantic Street in Keyport.

Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago's office says the victim, an adult woman whose identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was taken to Bayshore Medical Center where she was pronounced dead about 45 minutes later.

The involved driver, also an adult woman, remained at the scene.

An investigation involving members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Keyport Police Department remains active.

As of late Saturday morning, the driver has not been charged nor traffic summons issued.
