A multi-car accident caused the closure of Route 70 in Ocean County.

Manchester Police said the accident involving four vehicles happened around 7:30 a.m. on Route 70, just west of the intersection with Route 530/539 at Sam Pitts Road, near the township DPW facility.

The road was closed in both directions between Route 530/539 and Lakehurst Road, at the Pemberton line. All lanes were still closed as of 8:45 a.m.

Police said on their Facebook page there was at least one "very serious injury."

Police expect the road to be closed for several hours for the cleanup and investigation.

Route 70 carries many commuters from Ocean County directly into Burlington County and the Philadelphia area.
